Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen Newport
There was no shortage of crew enthusiasm at this year’s Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen Newport (Monday, June 18 through Thursday June 21), especially at the show’s five competitions designed specifically for showing off the talent, determination and creativity of chefs, captains, deck hands, stewards and stewardesses. In cheering on the crew contestants, brokers, managers and other charter industry professionals who attended the show enjoyed a break from business and gained further insight into the personalities of those who normally spend their days lavishing attention on charter guests.
Of the 24 charter yachts registered for the show, 18 were new to the event and 13 measured in at 100 feet and longer. Over 45 crew from 15 boats participated in the competitions. The Newport Charter Yacht Show was staged at the mega-yacht friendly Newport Shipyard, which also owns and operates the event.

2018 NEWPORT CHARTER YACHT SHOW REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

“The 2017 Charter Show was a huge success with 25 yachts participating in the show and over 80 charter brokers attending from around the US,” said Eli Dana, Newport Shipyard’s general manager. “One of the highlights of the show was the final party and awards where nearly every yacht crew attended to cheer each other on and graciously accept their crew competition awards,” Dana continued. “It was a really fun night and we hope to make next year’s party just as fun and engaging for the captains, crew, sponsors, brokers and industry professionals in attendance.”

NEWPORT CHARTER YACHT SHOW PRESENTED BY HELLY HANSEN NEWPORT: LASTING IMPRESSIONS
The annual Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen brought out the best in all who participated, including 100+ brokers and agents from 43 different charter yacht companies, 23 sponsors, 15 exhibiting vendors, 40 non-exhibiting vendors and captains and crews of 25 luxury yachts, ranging in size from the 60’ (18.3m) sailing vessel Beau Geste, presented by Bristol Marine, to the 198’ (60.4m) motor yacht Blue Moon, presented by Northrop and Johnson. The show, owned and managed by Newport Shipyard, took place on the company’s 10-acre waterfront facility for its second consecutive year over June 19-23 and was conclusively “bigger and better.”
“This is a much more open and public charter show than the others,” said Herman Pundt of Hargrave Custom Yachts, who liked that tourists and others from the community could walk the docks and check out the wares and services of exhibiting vendors along the main thoroughfare at Newport Shipyard, “and this year it evolved to have an even better flow, with everything close together and easy to navigate.”
