2019 Newport Charter Yacht Show Crew Competitions

There will be five crew competitions sponsored by GMT Global Marine TravelFore Points Marina and The Chanler at Cliff Walk at the 2019 Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen Newport.

CHEF COMPETITION - 
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 1pm

Open to all registered yachts in the Newport Charter Yacht Show, this year’s Chef Competition theme is SUSTAINABLE LUXURY. Participating yacht chefs are challenged to transform sustainably sourced ingredients into dishes that meet the five star standards of a yacht charter. Following a traditional mystery basket format, the chefs will delight the judges with the creation of their choice without restrictions on meal, style, cuisine, or dietary guidelines. The charter chefs’ creativity and technical skills will showcase how luxury can combine with sustainability in protecting food sources especially the marine environment that is enjoyed by guests and crew alike. They will prepare four servings of their sustainable creation. Chefs will be expected to give a presentation that includes an explanation of their chosen ingredients and how they prepared their entry.

Judging will take place in the main tent on Tuesday, June 18th at 1:00pm and is open for all show attendees to watch. There is a three person judging panel. The winner will receive a $250 travel voucher from GMT, a knife from CUTCO and dinner at The Chanler at Cliff Walk (value $500) along with other prizes.

Captain & DEck CHALLENGE -
Tuesday, June 18, 5:45pm - 7:15pm

The Captain & Deck Challenge, organized by Aere Marine, ShipShape and The Captain’s Concierge will take place on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:45pm adjacent to the main show tent. The competition will be made up of three challenges, all of which will be exciting and fun to watch! The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the three challenges combined will each receive an award and other prizes. Your crew and all other show participants are invited to cheer you on! Beer and wine will be served during the competition.

NOTE: This event is only for the captains & crew of yachts participating in the show.

TABLESCAPING COMPETITION - 
wedneSDAY, JUNE 19, 10am-4pm

This competition is open to all interior crew onboard yachts participating in the Newport Charter Yacht Show. Crew can compete solo or as a team. The challenge is to artistically decorate a dining table onboard utilizing the yacht’s own linen, china, tableware and decorative items including candles and flowers. The yacht may choose any theme and set-up on either an interior or exterior table.

The judging will focus on what is displayed on top of the table. A panel of design professionals will pick one winner. Show attendees will also pick a fan favorite. The criteria used in judging includes: originality of theme, composition, use of materials and how well the tablescape fits with the yacht.

Signature Cocktail Competition -
Wednesday, June 19, 10am-4pm

Open to all crew participating in the Charter Yacht Show, this is a competitive opportunity for crew to show off their skills in creating delicious adult beverages using Keel Vodka and mixers or secret ingredients from their bar pantries. This competition will take place on Wednesday, June 19th from 10:00 am to 4:00pm. Entries will be judged onboard by show attendees who will evaluate each for taste and presentation. (Please note that you will be required to list all the ingredients in each drink).

CYBA Designer Water Contest -
Wednesday, June 19, 10am-4pm

The 2019 Newport Charter Show Designer Water Contest is open for registration. This is a fun contest to raise awareness on a great way to reduce plastic water bottle waste while providing charter guests with delicious, refreshing drinking water. 

CONTEST RULES 

1. Prepare a flavored water using ingredients of your choice. No alcohol. See here for some Sample Recipes 

2. Water used must be produced by the desalinator onboard your yacht. 

3. Beverage must be served in reusable containers. No plastic. 

4. Display a printed copy of the recipe with the name of the recipe, ingredients, preparation steps, and the name of your boat. 

5. The same recipe needs to be used for the duration of the contest. 

 To enter the contest, simply fill out the registration form on this page or send an email to environment@cyba.net with the name of your yacht and indicating that you are attending the Newport Charter Show and want to join the contest. 

A group of Brokers will be selected to judge your water based on taste, creativity, and presentation. Judging will take place during regular yacht viewing hours and more details will follow. Please remind the judges to take a picture of your printed recipe for reference. 

Elegant glass “Save the Blue” trophies will be given to 1st and 2nd place winners, as well as additional gifts and prizes.
